Thomas Jefferson No 27, Monticello Views Thomas Jefferson No 27, Monticello Views

From the Thomas Jefferson collection

In 1992 Life magazine ask me to do a piece on Thomas Jefferson. To my knowledge it never ran.

The collection is broken down in the following way:

• His home at Monticello
• Interiors of Monticello
• The views from Monticello
• His summer home, called Poplar Forest, where he summered with his grandchildren.
• University of Virginia (UVA) which he founded and was the original architect.
• Various sculptures of Jefferson himself including some in the Jefferson Memorial.

What I could not photograph was Jefferson’s accomplishments as a statesman: He was the primary author of the Declaration of Independence; Governor of Virginia; a U.S. minister to France; he was the third president of the US. He was also Secretary of State under President George Washington.

He was a true renaissance man.
